Danny CarltonWell, we’ve got about a seven month reprieve (which we’re in the third month of) so the beginning of August is when I’ll know more of how things look. In the mean time I’m co-writing the autobiography of a guy that runs a somewhat successful ministry. He had a colorful past before he became a Christian, and all his previous attempts at an autobiography flopped. He really liked my novel, so wanted me to help him out. Linda and I are hoping that this will be the key that opens up a writing career that will put us into a more financially stable footing.
My novel, so far, has only sold 3 copies. This is more than likely because A. people don’t like ebooks and B. I wasn’t able to promote it the way big publishers do.
I launched SpelChek™ and the usage is growing, but the pay version doesn’t seem to be attracting many customers. In the month since I launched the pay version I’ve only made about $35.
Working with a friend, who had an overstock of furniture, I tried selling it off on eBay, but the very first item was trashed by Fedex, who then took almost a month and a half to finally pay on the insurance claim. So that project was scrapped.
I’m still working on switching the archives over to MySQL, but that’s kinda way down on my "to do" list behind lots of other stuff.
I’ve been having to develop some automated teaching tools (here’s another) for my kids’ homeschool so they could learn easier. Their homeschooling is still my primary job.
I started what I call my "God Forbid" project, which was to prepare things in case anything happened to me. I made long lists of all the information I thought Linda would need. But when it came to my online stuff, it will take longer. I’ll need to create some extrensive documentation that Linda could give to someone so each project could be taken over by someone else. I tend to create things quickly and without a lot of documentation, (kind of like the way people have messy desks, but they still know where everything’s at) which speeds up the creation, but leaves it so that if something were to happen to me it’d be almost impossible for someone to figure out how things worked. I’m still working on that. One benefit to this will be that it should allow me to shift the "housekeeping" of this site to others if that’s ever needed. (Actually that’s a project lots of people need to do, but most put it off)
So in summary, things are stable for now, and we’ll have to wait to see what happens in August.
