When I first took my daughter to a ped urologist, this is basically what the resident said (not to me). Fortunately I had (he moved!) a great ped urologist who "knew" that we weren’t looking at a simple case of fused labia (which is rather common).

To verify what needed to be done, Olivia had an ultra sound, VCUG, and a cystoscopy. The ped endo was right -- her vagina connects into the urethra -- not just a simple surgery.

Since Olivia (now 5) hasn’t had any problems, I am waiting to do surgery before puberty.
