re: re: re: NON-SYMPTOMATIC ...SO FAR?

My son was over 40 days old when he was diagnosed.  He was picked up through newborn screen and then we tested again for confirmation.  He too seemed and continues to seem so very healthy.  It took a while for me to stop thinking that they had made some "big mistake" because he is such a easy and happy baby.  My son is now 5 months old and so far has not even had a sniffle.  I’m surprised since he has two older sisters 9 and 7 that have had various colds etc. since his birth.  My daughters and husband think I am the "hand washing police" but otherwise I don’t protect him too much.  He goes with me everywhere I go.  I guess we have just been lucky so far.  I know his sick days will come and we will of course deal with it.  My son has been diagnosed as simple virilizing also and is not on florinef at this time.

As far as giving the cortef, I followed Sandra’s advice a few months ago and it is working great.  I put the pill on the plastic coated spoon with a drop of water and put it in his mouth.  Now I don’t even wait until it is all the way dissolved.  He just moves it around with his toungue to dissolve it.  This is much easier for us than the oral syringe.  We did the syringe for the first month until we tried this.

I know how scary it is at first.  Everyone on this board has been so helpful to me.  We have not had to deal with a crisis yet, but thanks to the information so many people have provided I feel we can and will handle it when the time comes.  Educating myself has helped so much to reduce my fear.  I now realize how blessed I am that my child has a condition that is so treatable.  I know that God will help me to make the best decisions.  I also know that God has entrusted me with this wonderful little boy and that God does not make mistakes.  If God has enough faith in me to take care of this precious baby then I must have faith in myself.

I know sometimes when it is all so new and somewhat overwhelming it is hard but please ENJOY your very precious new baby boy.  It WILL all be okay.  This board will provide you with support and there are so many knowledgable people here that are always so willing to help.  You are not alone!!!!

Congratulations on the birth of your son!!!!  Keep us posted about how he is doing.

Feel free to e-mail me if you ever want to talk I would be happy to give you my phone number as well.

Blessings.....Lisa
