CAH lowering immune system?
Mar. 18th, 2004   7:21pm

Does anyone know how much the cortisone supplements lowers a SWCAH child’s immune system, if at all? I know when I read the info and labels on my son’s cortef and florinef bottles they both say that the medicine lowers their resistance.

The reason I ask is I was advised to shelter my 8 week old son which I have done with in reason, but he some how managed to catch pneumonia anyway and now on top of all his normal meds he is on antibiotics AND a nebulizer. He’s been in the ER twice already and he’s only 8 weeks old. The ironic thing is I’m pretty sure he got the pneumonia from my Dad who is my son’s babysitter so we can keep him away from everyone. And my Dad doesn’t see anyone besides us! I’m worried this is going to be a common thing.

Now that my son has pneumonia ALL of his doctors have him and us in solitary confinement. He’s not allowed to be held by anyone beside my husband and I. He’s not allowed be around any school children or have school children or anyone who works in hospitals or with the public. Other than my Dad that pretty much counts for every single person I know. What I’d like to know is how I’m supposed to keep him well when I have to go to the Endo. , the pediatrician, and the Lab in a very large hospital every 2 weeks? Has anyone else had this problem? Is this common and will it get better?
