KayLeanna, while our kids are taking what is supposed to be a physiological or replacement dose of steroids and it SHOULD NOT compromise their immune systems, I am always skeptical when a dr says that. My 15 yr old was diagnosed at the age of 3 and was rarely sick before being diagnosed. She went to a babysitter who kept about 6 other kids - some preschoolers who were there all day and a couple of school kids before and after school, so my daughter was exposed to all kinds of things. Since she started school at the age of 5, I don’t think she has had but two years where she missed less than 20 days of school for illness. That does not include the times she happened to be sick during Christmas break or Spring break. Summers are best for her. I have often said that I think she carried a sign that says "germs welcome" because she gets them all. She is very good about hand washing and very good hygiene and always has been. Whether she would have been just as susceptible to all the germs if she didn’t have the CAH, I really don’t know, but I believe it must have something to do with the steroid usage.
By the way,. my daughter has been well controlled and has not experienced long periods of oversuppression at any time in her life.
