re: fevers

I am hoping that your ped has already tested for UTI’s. . .it’s just so obvious that it would make me ANGRY if they had not.  Plus if they are not more concerned then maybe you should find another set of peds.  Our ped has always been wonderful but we have never hesitated to call our ped endo team at the speciality hospital we attend.  We are our children’s only advocates. . .they cannot speak for themselves.  My daughter had constant UTI’s for the first 6 months of her life.  It seemed like we were in the hospital constantly - she would spike with a 103 fever within 30 minutes and it was honestly terrifying.  I didn’t know how our fmaily was going to afford the time off it took to be there as much as we wanted and at the time we just didn’t know if there was ever going to be a time that we wouldn’t be feeling her forehead all the time!  But my daughter is the ever constant trooper and pulled through everything including surgery to correct her UTI’s.  Besides her surgery we have not been in the hospital since she was 6 months old (she’s now 18 months) and we’ve never had anything more serious than a cold / flu.

We have always been told that once our daughter has a fever over 101 we are to triple her meds immediately (right then and then to keep her dose tripled for at least 24 hours after her last sign of a fever so that the body has "ammunition" to keep fighting with.  If she is able to keep down her meds you don’t need to give her a shot, unless you think that she is in trouble (lethargic etc. . .) then by all means give her a shot.

My biggest concern is that your peds aren’t more concerned with figuring out what is wrong.  When we first had our daughter we were in the mindset that we should listen to the docs and not question because they knew more than us - but we’re over that polite mind set.  We are the ones that care the most about our daughter and we know when something is not right, if the docs that you are working with are not fully behind you and willing to work with you as a TEAM to help this child then dump them and don’t be afraid to tell them why.  What tests have they done?

Please tell your daughter that it does get better - we hit rock bottom financially during the first 6 months of my daughters life but when I look at her now and she runs up and screams I LOVE YOU MOMMY SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! I don’t even think about anything else ;-)
