re: Cortisone Stim test

My now 5-year-old daughter has always been in daycare and they have always given the mid-day medication.  At both of the day cares where she has been I have always kept an emergency injection kit. At the first day care I was close enough to go and give the injection. At the current one, if an injection is needed our ambulance service will give it. These have both been national type daycare chains, not in-home care. She has NEVER needed an injection during day care hours.

Unless there are other issues with your son (which there very well could be), there are no CAH reasons for a child not to be in a normal child care setting. The only issue with a CAH kid is that when they do run a fever or have vomiting, then you need to react right away.

Your son will only need medication 1 time when he is at day care -- this shouldn’t be a problem. Talk with your ambulance service to find out if they will give an injection. Regardless if they will or won’t (or the day care will or won’t)-- 911, a MedicAlert bracelet and the local hospital will. My daycare has the instructions that if 911 needs to be called, Olivia must get an injection, then she is to be transported to the hospital after it is given by the para-medics. This way no one has to make a judgment call except for me and the doctors at the hospital.

I know and understand that it is really scary sending your son off to day care -- but it will be OK.  He is going to grow up to be a normal kid, getting lots of bumps and bruises.

Best regards,

Janet
