re: re: ADVICE ON BRINGING A FEVER DOWN

My pediatrician recommended to us when we could not get a fever down, to alternate between Motrin and Tylenol. (Like all advice I give, CHECK WITH YOUR PED. FIRST! I AM NOT A DOCTOR!) I am not sure if there is an age limit to this. It worked well for us as we continued to stress dose our daughter. (ie give Motrin and then wait until 4 hours later. At that time give tylenol, and so on and so forth) this way you are actually giving the Motrin as directed (every 8 hours) and the Tylenol (every 8 hours) when you figure all that time out. At first I freaked when they told me to do that BUT they said Motrin is a different fever/pain reliever than Tylenol. They are two different drugs, so you can alternate these two drugs. This has always kept a fever down for us. Now if the fever is really high I have heard on several occasions that many have used the Solu-Cortef or injectable Cortef when fevers were too high. I personally have not yet, only because the fever has responded to our dosing and medications. Every child is different. I know Tonia on this message board has two daughter’s with salt wasting CAH. One cannot tolerate fevers and needs to be taken to the E.R. for I.V.’s Her other daughter does fine and responds well to her oral dosing. Whatever the plan of action you plan to take, call your ped. AND your endo. I hope she is feeling better soon!!! Don’t forget to check for bladder infections too. They always creeped up on us back then. Good luck!
