Deen,

Thank you for sharing your experience.  I used to live around Edison. I know Robert-Wood Johnson,  it belongs to UMDNJ, right? I know it is big but I do not have any experience with them.

I live in northen NJ. I had very negtive experience when my daughter was in the hospital when she was 4 days old. I was in shock at the time (knew my daughter has CAH). And I did not have much experience to deal with doctors/hospitals at the time.  It took me a couple of days to realize what those med students "were doing" and I stood up to protect my daughter. After I confronted one of them, they stopped coming "checking her". I talked to her endo and the manager there. It was a very difficult time.  ( English is my second language. It is always difficult to "fight" when using one’s second language. If I could use my naitive language,  I could talk without a pause.)  During those days, I learned to speak for my daughter and say no to anything that I do not feel comfortable with.  We did not have a team of docs/med students waiting for us when we went to ER. My negtive experience came from the staff member in the ER. They are NOT good at opening IV.  My daughter was stuck 6 times. It took them about 2 hours to finally open IV. The worst was we went to ER one night (my daughter was vomitting, but was sent home and next day she was in crisis and stayed in PICU for 4 days).

What I believe I can do now is to learn as much as possible. To be knowledgeable about CAH and never hesitate to speak/stand up for my daughter. As for dealing with the medical system, I can only try my best to find a good doctor/hospital. But I would never trust them 100% for what they do/say.

Thanks again and I hope we can keep in touch and change information about treatment/doctors. I heard a rumor that Dr. New might leave Cornell.
