MeganYes, my sister has a very big problem with these spider veins on her face. Admittedly when she was younger she spent many hours lying in the sun and has for a long time been on Dexamethasone. I, on the other hand hated sunbathing and have nearly always been on Pred. I currently have a couple of these spider veins but not too extensive.
So for us, I don’t know whether these spider veins were due to a sun problem or the type of steroid we were on, which made the difference between us.
I did have a growing spider naevi/haemangioma removed from the bridge of my nose when I was about nine, which my hospital notes suggest was, steroid induced. A Plastic Surgeon removed it under local anaesthetic, at the hospital, where I was treated for CAH and I went home the same day. I still have a very small scar, as a reminder.
However steroids can make the face have a flushed appearance in slightly higher doses, even in the absence of these spider veins. Earlier this week, I had stress dosed for two days and then I went to the airport to pick up my husband and he said "what’s wrong with your face, why are your cheeks so red"? I looked in the mirror and sure enough my cheeks were very red and I had no awareness of it. This never happens to me these days, so I can only assume it was because of the two days of a higher dose of Pred. It did happen to me many times when I was younger and on a higher daily dose.
