hi rebecca! i understand all your concerns. i have a 4 month old swcah son and we recently reduced his cortef from 5mg per day to 3.25 mg per day, also a third lower dose. however, we are still giving it 3x per day. his labs were all low, like your daughters. i have not noticed any real changes in his personality and his last set of labs were all good, so i am glad we did it b/c that must mean his body didn’t need the 5mg per day. some of the behaviors you describe might just be a coincidence, but of course, you know best. i would be concerned, however, about the 2x per day. i believe the action of cortef only lasts about 6 hours. i had this same discussion with our endo on thursday about even lowering my son’s dose more b/c his 17ohp was still only 300, but he did not feel like 2x/day was an option and i cant cut the pill smaller than in fourths. i just assumed the 2x/day wouldn’t work b/c it does not stay in your system long enough, he did not elaborate any further. maybe other people can help you with the 2x/day issue. you are right in that both dexamethasone and prednisone are longer acting. hope this helps!!
