JennyCody 7 yrs SWCAH has had several. He came home from school last week and said I have a sore throat and headache. He then said he was dizzy and numb. I took him to the pediatrican. They immediately took him in (they have been with him since birth). By then he could not move and was mumbling words. THey immediately gave him the solu-cortef. Gave him a throat culture and by then he had a fever (got some tylenol). We waited awhile and by the time we got home he was Cody again. All this came about from strep throat. We usually always go immediately to the ER. After we give the triple dose or solu-cortef. They have all his info at the hospital and we have never had to wait! They have been so wonderful. We just say he has CAH and they are aware of what that is. He has his medical ID Jewelry and we have a paper from his endo that we carry at all times along with his solu-cortef kit. He is 7 yrs old and very well alert of all his symptoms and lets me know. He will say I need to go to the hospital or the Dr. I’m not feeling well and I know it is a crisis. One day he was outside playing and was just fine. He came up to me and said I have a headache and the next thing I know he was out of it. We tripled his dose went to ER and he had a virus was in the hospital for 4 days. It just happens in an instant. I am always ready. He got hit with a baseball right in the nose last summer playing in a league. I thought on my here we go but actually he was fine. Got back out there and played. He fell at school recess and broke his wrist. Which breaking a bone is a CRISIS. By the time I got to school he was in shock tool me less then 3 mins to get there. He got the solu-cortef went to ER. Next day had a cast put on. He was back to normal.
I’m sorry I’m writing all this but just wanted to know how everyone else or your child does in the CRISIS situations? What do you do? How do you handle it? I know the cares foundation and all these resources have all the information for us but we actually experience it first hand. So I believe we are the experts! Love to hear from everyone.
Thanks Jenny
