Does your daughter have excema? Is she prone to sensitive skin for other reasons such as perfumed soaps, etc??Wendy-LeeMy SW daughter (6) gets the very thing that you are describing, but then again, so do I. When she scratches, it gets infected which can cause impetego. It can be really hard to clear up, especially when you watch them for scratching all day, but can’t control what they do when they’re half asleep at night.
What about the sunscreen that you are using?? I, myself, am quite sensitive to many types of sunscreens, and found that my daughter can only tolerate a few kinds .... it’s hard to find one for kids that has absolutely no perfume or dye. If your daughter is sensitive to the sunscreen, then putting it on her over and over again, might actually be making matters worse.
Finally, we had to say "No!" to sunscreen altogether for a few weeks for my daughter, and give her skin a chance to heal. We opted to stay out of the hot sun, worn big hats, long sleeves, etc. It wasn’t much fun, but coupled with a nightly antihistime (as perscribed by her pediatrician), and the antibiotic/coritisone cream for the really infected areas, it finally cleared up. I am NOT looking forward to the whole scenerio again this summer, so am being VERY careful what I put on her skin, and how much sun (and direct contact with grasses, which seem to bother her, too) she is exposed to.
