C.A.H. and weight gain

Hi! I am a female carrier of C.A.H. and we’re just finding out the extent to which it runs in our family-quite strongly it would seem. My neice has the full condition but no or few symptoms. She’s just had her first baby with no trouble but one thing she does suffer from is what seems "unfair" weight problems. i.e. she eats well and exercises a lot. My own daughter is not diagnosed with C.A.H. but will be tested shortly. She was always a very slim energetic child and she had no classic C.A.H. symptoms but her growth rate was off the chart in all dimensions when she was a baby and the onset of puberty was at 11 which is fairly young. Since then she has rapidly gained lots of "unfair" weight and now it’s a real problem which seems to be ruining her life. She is 18 now and the weight gain shows no sign of slowing down. She’s just going up and up. She has tremendous sugar cravings. She also suffers from depression. She self harms when she’s really down. She also has irregular and often excruciatingly painful periods. Can anyone offer us any ideas or insight. I have heard that there is a C.A.H. related condition of insulin insensitivity which causes weight gain and can be treated with diabetes type drugs. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks for reading this and please do get in touch.
