re: Doctors in the Atlanta area

Hi Sara,

Congratulations on your baby girl!  It must be tough having to deal with with all these CAH issues along with all the stress of being a first time mom.  I have a son with CAH (he is now 4 years old) and I was grateful that he was my second child.  I think it would have been more stressful if he had been my first.

What part of Atlanta do you live in?  We live in Fayetteville.  Since I have a son I have not had to deal with any issues of reconstructive surgery.  I love my ped endo (Dr. Quentin VanMeter) but he is located in Peachtree City which may not be convenient for you.  I took him to Emory once but the whole experience was awful.  It was probably just an isolated problem, but I haven’t been back.  I am surprised by how few pediatric endocrinologists there are in Atlanta.  My son’s next appointment is June 9th.  If that’s not too late I would be happy to ask my doctor if he has an opinion about reconstructive surgeons in the area.

Kelly Leight at the CARES Foundation maintains a database of physicians and people’s opinions of them.  She is a great resource.  I believe there is a link to the CARES website from this board.  Let me know if you have any trouble finding them and I can send you their phone number.

Please feel free to e-mail me anytime if you want.  I thought I would never survive the 1st few months after my son was diagnosed.  But now, I hardly ever even think about CAH.  Marcus is a very healthy, happy, normal child.

Good luck!

Cindy
