re: Hormone Levels: Late-Onset CAH?

Shannon,

You might want to ask your doctor if it’s possible you could have late onset CAH due to 3-beta deficiency, rather than the more common 21-hydroxylase deficiency.

With 3-beta CAH, DHEA is usually high, while andro and testosterone are low. (This seems to fit your profile.) With 21-OH CAH, all three of these hormones are usually high.

Also, with 3-beta CAH, there is usually a large build-up of the precursor hormone 17-hydroxypregnelolone, unlike with 21-OH CAH, where there is a greater build up of 17-hydroxyprogesterone. This, again, seems to fit your profile.

Perhaps it’s worth a shot...good luck!
