When to give an injection...
Jun. 1st, 2004   3:49pm

Due to the holiday, I’m a little behind on reading the board. I started a new discussion because I feel it is so very important.

First of all, Heather, glad everything went OK.  My daughter still reminds me how I messed up the first time I gave her an injection -- I forgot to have the gauze ready to stop any blood. (It has almost become a family joke!)

Someone made a comment (actually implied) about not having to give an injection unless there are signs of crisis, for example lethargy. My ped endo has always stressed (and it seems logical to me) that you want to give the injection BEFORE there are signs of crisis -- you want to prevent a crisis.  This is why when my daughter is throwing up and has a fever, she will always get an injection, regardless of how she is acting and/or feeling -- I don’t want a crisis to occur. I also want to avoid having to make the trip to the ER -- which typically in this situation isn’t possible for us.
