JudyWI know that this is a very personal and delicate issue. I can tell you that I work 1 hr without traffic from my home and my kids go to school 5 minutes from our house. My husband is on the road and can be anywhere at any time up to 3 - 4 hrs from home. Even when they were in a home day care situation we were that far. Fortunately for us we have never had an issue with that. However, I am very fortunate that I have my mother who is now retired and has been very willing to get the kids at school when the are not feeling well. My son has CAH and my daughter does not. My mother gets my daughter far more often than my son. Do you have anyone that you know and trust to be available for you that might be closer to your school of preference?
We have never let CAH rule our decisions. It certainly plays a part in the decision but it has never been the ruling factor in them. I think you should trust your instincts no matter what. Have you spoken with the school that is further away? If so have you discussed your child’s issues and gotten a feel from them as to how receptive thay are to deal with it? To me that would be more of a concern than the distance. I have an emergency medical letter on file with our school that my doctor has provided. It is for an emergency room should that ever be needed. That gives me more confidence that if my son has to go to the hospital that they will know what to do with and for him.
Good luck with your decision.
Judy
