re: dex on infant not affected with CAH

My first child has CAH, so I took dex for my second pregnancy.  I had the CVS and was told I was expecting an unaffected boy, so came off the dex at 12 weeks.  When born it was discovered that my son had hypospadias.  Although they cannot be sure whether this was caused by the dex, it is suspected as the dex is taken during the time the genitals are being formed.  I found it quite ironic that the genital surgery I took the dex to avoid (should I have an affected girl with CAH) could have been responsible for the genital surgery my young son has now had to face.

Taking the dex is a very difficult decision but in the majority of cases, it does not seem to have any effect on foetuses who do not have CAH.  Obviously it is of great benefit if you are pregnant with a little girl who has the condition though.   There really is no right or wrong choice, you have to make a decision and stick with it.  Good luck!
