As most of you know Alyssa spoke again on Tuesday, this time to the California Assembly. The first time a couple months ago, it was at the California Symposium held by Senator DeDe Alpert. We went to show our support to the Senator and to thank her for authoring the Bill.
In case you didnt know Alyssa is involved in an effort to get Senate Bill 142 passed (expanded newborn screening), so that California has to screen for more newborn diseases and conditions than it does currently. We want atleast 30 more tests added to the current 4 tests they do now. And of course that includes adding Congential Adrenal Hyperplasia! Other people do bring their children so it puts a real face of a child to the cause but Alyssa is the only child speaking on behalf of this.
To watch the video use the free version of real player to open and hear the meeting. Our particular group (if you want to go straight to it on the play bar) starts at about 27 and ends about 37. Senator Deidre Alpert starts our part of the meeting. Most of us look pretty distorted in our pictures, we are of course way better looking than the film shows. Let us know if you cant see it!
Oh! By the way........It passed with 13 assembly votes, now it goes on to the next step in the process to become law. Will keep you posted!
