acth stim test...i’m unsure if it is worth it

hi everyone! as my earlier posts have stated we are now wondering if my son has cah. baseline labs were never obtained on him since the ped icu was so concerned over his crazy potassium and sodium (i dont blame them at all) that they immediately began treatment. we are just going by the newborn screen. we are going to be doing dna testing, but my peds endo also recommended an acth stim test for tues. morning. this would mean taking him off his cortef (florinef not affected) for 24 hours, getting a baseline cortisol, giving him acth, then getting another cortisol in 1 hour. my understanding of this is that MOST of the time this test is given BEFORE a child ever begins treatment. it makes my husband and i nervous for him to be without his cortef for 24 hours b/c we are all 95% sure he does have swcah. anyone ever been through this?? thanks!
