When I  was young, my dad came up with the perfect way to get me to actually keep my medica allert braclets on.  (Diabetes since age 7)  He had pretty bracelets made or found them in stores and added the diabetic plate with my name and phone number and doctors name and phone number in the center.  The medic alert plates were just a few dollars back then including the engraving, so before long I had a bracelet of little hearts,  one of lapis beads,  pearl beads, topaz, and even a silver charm bracelet of ballerinas and puppies, and skaters all with that center plate.  Dad kept the beads or sections he had removed, to enlarge the bracelets as I grew.  I grew up believing my unique bracelets added to my outfits and made me special.
