JudyWThis is a subject that has come a lot lately. My SWCAH son was 9 in Feb. He is approx. 53 inches tall and weighs 91 lbs. He looks overweight especially for his height. He would eat non stop if I let him. He was like this from the time he went on meds at 4 days old. I really noticed it when he was released from the hospital after being in for a week from 4 days when he was diagnosed. I discussed it with the doctor because he cried constantly because he couldn’t get enough to eat. The endo told me that it was the Cortef and that we couldn’t allow him to just eat all the time. He would need to learn to control his appetite just like the rest of us have to. But that it would be harder for him to learn that than a nonCAH person. He put the bulk of his weight on two years ago. This past year he has really leveled off as we have instituted an exercise program for him and really watch what he is eating. I personally believe much of it is related to the meds but I also think that out of that comes habit. There are times when he says he is starving but I make an educated decision based on when and what he ate last. Sometimes I say oh well it won’t kill you to wait. He eats very well and believe me will never starve.
