My now 3 year old SWCAH daughter was a crier as a baby.  She had severe reflux.  The only thing that helped her sleep was a little Milacon and her Mamma Bear ( the bear that makes the sound of being inside the mother).  This bear worked soooo well for us that I was able to stick to my words and not use the rocker to put her to sleep.  I would just turn on her bear, give her the pacifier and lay her to sleep on her own.  She still sleeps alone.  But , of course , all babies are differant.  Good Luck and try to take a breather when the fussing becomes too much.  My doctor always reminded me that a little crying is good for babies!
