robertaMy daughter, Jessica, died in 1997 because of the liquid cortef made by UpJohns. It was recalled in 1998 because it was not working (not stable and would not mix). Her 17OHP levels were way off for months and the ped endo would not switch her to the pill... and she died from adrenal crisis. It was gradual... she was lossing weight, vomiting, dark circles under her eyes for months. Then she had a fever, the ped endo doctor on call, said to double the cortef and stop calling him. In the morning she was in a coma. Her heart stopped in the emergency room and they revived her but it took 45 minutes and after 2 days in the PICU - they stopped the respirator and said she was dead.
I should have given her 100 mg of solu-cortef (injection) but I didn’t know - I listened to the doctor.
My advice ---- If there is a high fever (over 102 and the fever is not reducing within 30 minutes) - give the injection and go to the ER (call an ambulance). Watch the weight and growth. Get a GOOD DOCTOR! And a good regular ped doctor.
