LauraKHi Julia,
We’ve used 24 hour urine testing for a couple of years now. It is so much kinder for the youngsters with little veins.
Pregnanetriol gives you the metabolites of 17-OHP, so you’ll expect that to be higher than lab normals, perhaps up to 10 times the normal upper end. 17-ketosteroids are the androgen metabolites, so we like to keep them within (preferably upper) normal range.
We’ve always given the most consideration to the 17-ketosteroid result, with the pregnanetriol used mostly as confirmation. If we had a high pregnanetriol but normal 17-ks, we’d keep a closer eye on the next result.
My girls are getting big enough now that a blood draw would probably not be a big deal, but we’re sticking with urine. Good luck!
