Had trouble with ER nurses and Doctor
Jul. 3rd, 2004   4:31pm

Recently my daughter had a really high fever. I think I posted about it here a while ago. It was 104.7 at it’s highest. We took her to the ER and they really downplayed her CAH. The admitting nurse seemed way too stressed out training another lady so was pretty stern with me. She ordered me not to put my daughters pants back on after she took her temp. She really wasn’t a nice person. Not to mention the Dr called my daughter a boy. He didn’t even look at the admitting papers!

They should have checked her electrolytes, she’s a salt waster, but they never did that either. They just attached a urine bag (not sure what it’s actually called) to collect urine, gave her some Tylenol and then had us sit there for over 3 hours. And this was at 11:30pm at night! We didn’t leave till almost 3am.

Finally they check her urine and come back and tell me that she has a UTI, because there was bacteria in her urine.  So they give her some antibiotics, me a prescription for it and send us off home with instructions to follow up with her ped in 5 days.

Well the ped had her urine tested and she said my daughter never had a UTI. So she was medicated for no reason. She said that since my daughter had, had diarhea that is where the bacteria had come from. She also told me that they should have checked her electrolytes. She said with CAH you can go from bad to worse in minutes. And I totally agree with her.

I just wonder if it’s really worth my time and effort to make a complaint about the people there that night. I am not pleased and am a little aprehensive about having to take her back there should we need to in the future!
