Sherry,

I am so sorry to hear of your ER experience.  In my personal opinion  COMPLAIN!!!  If you can remeber the names of the people even better.

I will tell you, as an RN myself I cringed when I read your post.  No parent deserves to get the treatment you did.  I don’t understand why the ER is such a hotbed for bad personal skills, as well as crappy medical care (in my personal opinion plus the follow ups I hear from our patients who have recently been to the ER).  I know that out where I live the local ER does not have a pediatrician on duty, they don’t have a pediatric floor either, so your child is not getting (in my opinion) the personal care they need.   I actually drive 45 minutes from my home to go to the large hospital that has a pediatrician on duty 24/7.

I feel you need to complain, I always look at it like this...that physicain and/or nurse maybe on their last leg & one more complaint in their file may make all the difference as to if they are let go or not.  We (the medical community) need the public to point out the bad seeds in our field and help us weed them out.  Do what you can, believe me I am the first to write a praise letter as well as a complaint letter b/c being in the field I know how important those letters are.
