re: Drug to lessen effects of chicken pox

It’s been a number of years since my CAH daughter had chicken pox.  She was not given the vaccine. It was before widespread use of that vaccine and I don’t know if her pediatrician would have recommended it or not.  What I do remember is that he told me that I should be careful about her being exposed to it and to watch her carefully if she had been.  At the very first sign of chicken pox (within 24 hours of the outbreak, I believe) I was to start her on Zovirax (Acyclovir) and that would prevent a bad case.  Well, we did just that and she had a mild case, no scarring, no complications, but enough of a case to give her future immunity.  Just thought I would pass it along because it does work well.
