Like everyone else, congrats on your little one! My SWCAH daughter is 7 months old & will be having her surgery in 3 weeks. Like everyone else has said, we researched her urologist (Dr. Herwitz) and are very happy with him. You want to have someone who performs these types of surgeries at least a few times a year. Our Doctor performs about 3 a year, also if you can talk with other parents of his patients. I found that to be helpful as well, I spoke with 2 Mom’s of SWCAH girls who had the same doctor.
When to have the surgery is dependant on how stable your child is, when your urologist feels is the best time, and your feelings on it. I do know that the anesthesiologist would like them to be over 6 months b/c of the medications they have to give them & their bodies being able to absorb the med’s & such.

It is a personal & controversial topic, but as long as you research it, you will be happy whatever you decide.
