Congrats on the pregnancy.

I recently had a CVS by a very popular doctor in a major hospital who is known to specialize in it, and yet I almost lost my baby due to serious complications.  If I would do it again I would probably go with an amnio.  Although there is no guarantee with that either, it is considered to be at least twice as safe.

Another option, the current CARES newsletter mentioned a study that is going on now, where doctors are working on deciphering the gender of the fetus and if it is affected very early in pregnancy, by obtaining blood samples of the mother.  It sounds safer than anything else and by knowing where you hold early on you can eliminate taking unnecessary steroids.  I contacted them for details and it seams like something I would want to look into the next time around.  You can email them at bobrien@tufts-nemc.org .

Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
