louisehi laura. from my understanding, your brother would have had to be a carrier (like you are) in order for your neice to be a carrier (unless your brother’s wife oddly happened to be a carrier).
if your brother’s wife WAS a carrier and your brother WAS a carrier, then your neice has a 50% chance she is a carrier and a 25% chance she is not. the other 25% chance is that she would HAVE cah, which she obviously doesn’t.
if your brother’s wife WAS NOT a carrier and your brother WAS, then your neice would have a 25% chance she is a carrier.
then, of course, who she married would have to be a carrier, too. those 2 carriers could then produce a child with cah (like i guess you did). cah is autosomal recessive, just like cystic fibrosis, etc.
anyway, YES, she could be a carrier. she would then have to marry a carrier. the odds are that all that did not happen, but it is a small possibility.
wow! are you totally confused??? i hope i said all that right!
