KayMy daughter is the only KNOWN case of CAH in my family and my husband’s family. However, what I have discovered is that in my Dad’s family there were 3 children who died within days of months of their birth and one brother who died when given anesthesia for a tonsillectomy. Of course, these children were born in the early 1900’s (my Dad was born in 1923 and he was the youngest) and they did not even know about CAH at that point. My Dad’s parents and many of his siblings were born in Germany and the only records we have of the births and deaths is in a family "journal" that his Dad kept detailing births and deaths in the family. Each time it says cause of death unknown. My guess would be CAH due to the number of children who died at such a young age. So, I feel sure I got this gene from my Dad’s side, though no one has ever been tested. As for my husband, there are no such records for us to study on his side and they are all from Italy and England with him being a second generation American. My 26 year old son has never been tested, nor has he ever exhibited any signs of CAH. Since his younger sister does have it, I would suspect my son MAY be a carrier and will have him tested when he finally settles down with a serious relationship!
