Hi Tina.  I was pregnant with my 2nd child about 7 years ago and also went to a very well known doctor in our area.  I had chosen to do the CVS vs. the amnio so that I could get off of the dex if I could and it was not needed.  The doctor performed the procedure and had thought that it went very well.  The nurse came over to follow-up a couple minutes after the procedure was over and our baby’s heart rate was dropping.  We ended up losing our baby at the hospital that day.  The doctor again said that the procedure had went very well, but sometimes it just causes too much stress to the fetus.  My doctor said that this was the first incident of miscarriage that she had while performing the CVS procedure.

So, I am not trying to scare you, but I just feel that if I was in your situation, I would want to know that while the risk of losing the baby is small, it does happen.  I have a 12 year old son with SWCAH and I now also have a daughter that is 4 that does not have CAH.  With my pregnancy after losing the baby, we chose not to do any prenatal treatments and leave it in God’s hands.  It was a very hard decision to make because I knew that I was going to feel very guilty if I were to have a baby that could have benefited from prenatal treatment, but I also did not want to go through what we did with our second child.

I know that what ever decision you make will be the right one for you.  Congratulations with you pregnancy and good luck.
