re: lab results?

Heather,

Not being a Doctor or knowing the whole situation I would still say that result is too low almost no matter the measurements.  But what were the measurements?  ng/dl or something else?  Did they do a plasma renin level?  Andro level? I would be curious to see what those results were as well as her blood pressure.

My daughter was on that high of a dose of florinef (at your daughter’s age) and Dr. Migeon at John’s Hopkins had difficulty with that once consulted.  Our daughter retained water to the point where her skin was very shiny (especially on the legs) and looked like if you poked her leg with a pin out would come water pouring out.  Also her blood pressure ran high.  Make sure the blood pressure is not too high with that high of a dose!  They lowered the florinef and her bloatedness went away.  Around that time, her kidneys had started doing their job and helping out where they could.

Our endo consulted Dr. Merke at NIH who said not not to lower our daughter’s dose of cortef when three months ago (she is now 2) she was measuring very low.  She was on 3.75mg of cortef and we were cutting pills into quarters.  She said it was on such a low dose that it wouldn’t harm her and she would grow into it.  Okay, so she is an expert, however, this last result was also <10 ng/dl and her plasma renin was 85.  She hadn’t gained  a pound in six months and wasn’t really growing much taller.   Um, if she isn’t growing, how is she going to grow into the dose?  (smile goes here) Our endo decided to go ahead and lower it because of her concern with her growth.  (less oversuppression, more growth) She didn’t suggest using a growth hormone to grow into the dose????

I don’t know your daughters size, how she presents, the measurements in which your numbers are given, or her past levels/history, and to mention again, I am no doctor(!) but I would recommend a second opinion.

Good luck and let us know what is happening.  I would be very interested in hearing more.

Take Care,

RebeccaM
