KellyBill,
I have two boys (ages 6yrs and 7yrs old) with SWCAH. I will be happy to try and answer any of your questions about young boys. Both of my boys have been living a normal life. As babies, they started daycare when they were 8 weeks old. Cortef had to be administered to them 3 times a day, therefore daycare had to administer the afternoon dose. Only 1 or 2 mishaps (they either forgot to give the medicine or gave it to them late). I always made a big deal when this happened. They always called me immediately if either child was not acting normal, sick, hurt, or anything else. Also, when my 1st child was a baby, he got a stomach virus and I took him to the ER. Then I learned that my Endo. should have given him a Solu-Cortef prescription for emergencies (ex. vomitting - can’t hold down stress dose of medicine). Now, I make sure we keep a comfortable supply of Solu-cortef injections in the cabinet (esp. with 2 CAH children) and with us if we venture far from home.
Feel free to ask me a question on this message board or by e-mail - inman123@earthlink.net.
