Thank you all for you supportive responses.  The cut thumb has healed well and without incident.

I finally had an opportunity to speak briefly with his father tonight.  He went out to eat with us for his son’s birthday.   My impression was that he was a tad overprotective.   He said that his son was a daddy’s boy.  He did say that his son hasn’t had an episode that required hospitilization since he was five.  He’s also going to talk to the boy’s doctor about changing his meds.  Whatever the boy is on now is causing serious weight gain.  (I have the name of the meds written down somewhere but can’t find the paper.)

I’ll visit the sites you suggested.  Maybe after father and I get to know each other better, I can ask to be more involved.  Since the ruling came out concerning privacy and HIPPA is in effect in our state, without permission from father, I cannot be included...yet.

A side note...mother deserted the family twelve years ago.
