to double it would be 10mg and triple would be 15mg? Or do we just give her another dose of the 5mg. As in double would be just another 5mg and triple would be 10mg?

 

Sherry - What you said above is the same amount of medicine either way you say it.

Your doctor told you to use the 5 mg as your base dose. 5 mg is equal to one 5 mg pill.  Double means 2 times 5. Triple means 3 times 5. The 5 represents ONE pill. Double is 2 pills and triple is 3 pills.

Another dose of the 5 mg pill is saying you gave her one and now you will give her another which is indeed the same as doubling the dose or saying 2 times 5. 

 If your child is sick do not wait for the next scheduled dose time to give the increase in medication. Give it right then.  For example... if my son has his (5 mg pill) night dose at 10 pm.... and he wakes up at 3AM ill with high fever (102.5)  I would give him - right then- 3 of his 5 mg cortef pills. I have just tripled his dose. I would not wait for the regular morning dose time.
