I have never heard of the heel  or finger stick causing the sodium level to be a problem.   However, it could mess up the potassium.  The potassium can be higher in a finger/heel stick due to the squeezing of the site.

Our Pediatric Endo. does all of my daughters labs via venous puncture due to the fact that the heel stick could give false potassium levels.
