I will be sure to stop the lab people when they try to do something other than a venous draw.  This is such a learning process :)  I’m getting wise to the fact that I need to be very knowledgeable and monitor everything closely (and question anything that seems unusual).  The reason I even mentioned the heel poke to my pediatrician is because it was more traumatic for my little guy than a venous draw.  He screamed the entire time she was squeezing on his foot.  Usually, he barely whimpers when they initially poke him for a draw.
