JudyWWe travel approximately one hour to our endo. Each time we see her she gives us the paperwork / blood order for the next visit. Once a year she also gives us the x-ray order for his bone age. We always try to see her first thing in the morning but it’s not always possible as certain times she only sees patients in the AM and others in the afternoon. Either way we head in early so that we can do his blood work before he gets his morning meds. This keeps it consistent and she is comparing apples to apples. He is typically a little late for his morning meds as a result but not to bad. If we have time to do the x-ray before the visit we do that too. Typically it is just my son and I and we try to make it a special day together. We have breakfast & lunch and spend some good quality time talking. Something that is not always easy with another child at home. The endo reviews how his health has been since his last visit and always wants to know if there were any times that required stress dosing, why and for how long. She also reviews the doses we give him and the times. His height, weight and blood pressure are always checked just prior to seeing him and she too double checks his height and weight. She exams his body for hair growth and seriously exams his genitalia. She has said that if puberty were to set it that it would appear in the genitalia before it does in his blood work. She actually measures various parts of his genitalia. She keeps an eye on facial hair that he has above his lip. We actually shave it (because he doesn’t like it). Not with a razor but with one of those groomers. She said that the texture will also change when puberty is starting. By the way my son is a 9 yr old SW. We typically have to wait 2 - 3 weeks for the test results. If all is okay I don’t usually hear from her. She instead sends a letter to my sons pedi and copies me on it.
