I have to call my endo every time, but if he is really off in his levels she calls me.  I don’t wait any longer than a week and a 1/2 and if the tests aren’t there they go looking for them.  My endo told me I am my son’s advocate and I am responsible for keeping everyone on their toes. And after my son’s first visit to the ER I’ve learned I  am the one who knows what is going on! I make sure they listen to me no matter what (doctors tend to think you are just an overprotecting Mom).
