Andrew,

In regards to your question 1). I have heard someone say that when they are taking a long haul flight, they take their dose of eg. hydrocortisone every 4 or 6 hours (you choose), not by what time it is. It’s impossible to keep a schedule according to the normal times of administration when you are flying across time zones and international date lines etc. You could continue doing this for perhaps a day once in NZ, gradually bringing it back to his normal times. Some choose to do smaller four hourly dosing on the plane, as opposed to the six hourly dose, to help avert the stress of jet-lag -which can definitely be a problem after such a long flight. Perhaps you need to run your medication plans past your doctor as s/he may have a better suggestion.

If your flight is eg. 24 hours then you need to factor in, that he will need at least four doses of meds during the ’in terminal’ time and flight . Take more of his main medication with you in your cabin baggage than you would expect to use. Also don’t forget to carry at least two, if not more Solu-cortef  vials (or equiv), as well as the syringes and needles.

2). Have your endo write a letter to take with you and/or make contact ahead of time with Starship Childrens Hospital in Auckland.

3).  Can’t help you with this but maybe you can contact the NZ CAH Support Group. Try emailing CAHNZ@snap.net.nz

Hope you have a great trip. Are you planning on going further afield than Auckland? South Island?
