re: My son’s weight is off the charts.

Jenn,

My SWCAH son is now 9.  He was chubby as a baby and is definitely overweight now.  He actually began having trouble about 2 years ago.  As and active toddler he had really thinned out and was always about 50 % for both height and weight on the charts.  Now he is 75% for weight and 50% for height.  We work very hard to get his weight under control these days.

I do remember being exhausted when he was very young.  I felt like I couldn’t do anything or go any where because he always wanted to eat.  He would scream because all he wanted to do was eat.  I discussed it with the endo and that was when I found out that the Cortef increased the appetite.  She informed me not to give into his demands because he had to learn from an early age to control his appetite just like everyone else has to.  She also assured my, as did my pedi, that a baby would never starve unless you had a parent that just did feed their child.  When we learned to stick to that then he to learned and he thinned out.

I also remember when he was 4 months old and I was heading back to work I was so stressed because he was still getting up 2 times a night to eat.  I get up at 4:00 am and couldn’t even begin to imagine how I was going to function.  I discussed it with my pedi 2 weeks before returning to work and he advised me to only give him 2 oz of water during the night each time he woke.  He assured me that as long as I continued to give him formula or juice during the night he would always awaken to eat.  He said that my son would scream for hours the first night and that I would feel like I was at my wits end but to just comfort and rock and NOT give into his demands.  He informed me that night two would be easier and that night three even easier and that by night four he would be sleeping through the night.  IT TOTALLY WORKED.  I have told others I know to try this and everyone that has indicates they have had the same experience that I did.  IT WORKS.  Now  that being said I’m sure there is one or two children that it won’t work for but it did for my son and many others that I know.

Good Luck

Judy
