joanneI listened to a lot of people advising me not to allow bad habits to pick up and read some books. I tried to put this into practice by moving my daughter into her own room, not bringing her into the bed with us and not nursing her to sleep. I did find it hard and tiring to be strict but believe that it is better in the long run. When my daughter was 5 months old she kept waking many times in the night looking for the dummy I was nearly distracted with tiredness, so I tried the controlled crying. It wasn’t easy but i think that we know our child’s cries and i didn’t feel that she was crying out of pain or extreme distress. it did not take very long at all. then she decided that the breast would be her new dummy and i could not go out at night, so i put her on to the bottle. She has substituted to sucking a cotton blanket which has to go everywhere with her. I was told by her endo to treat her like any other child, which i have done. she is now a wonderful sleeper and often asks to go to bed and uses a cup now instead of a bottle. I think that we can spoil our babies by not allowing them to go to sleep by themselves and by constantly picking them up.
