Sherry,

Whenever we go out in high heat with our girls (8 & 6- both ssw cah) we always take plenty of cold water and cold gatorade or propel.  We dress them lightly in light cotton tanks and shorts or sundresses.  We also make sure they are wearing enough sunscreen so as not to make the situation worse later with a sunburn.  The BEST thing we have ever come across is a personal sized fan with a water bottle attached.  It is AWESOME and keeps them cool on hot days.  We usually just watch for the typical warning signs:  dehydration, lethargy, etc.  We live in Ohio and we have hot and humid summers.  We have learned how to enjoy summer!  Good luck to you !  :)
