Perhaps I am looking for a connection where there are none ....  you have mentioned several times that your grand-daughters mother died from cancer when your granddaughter was about 5 months old.  As I was diagnosed with cancer myself last year I am curious what type of cancer she had?  While I doubt that it is connected to being a carrier of CAH...... it would be something to think about if it was indeed a similar cancer.  And mostly - I am sorry for the loss.
