LynnTWhen my son was around 5 (and we had just switched his meds to pill form) his hunger was insatiable. Even though we would try to make sure that he had food in his stomach before giving him his meds he still seemed to be starving shortly after his med dose. At that time we were giving his meds 3 x’s a day. I caught him sneaking in between snacks often during that time. He still has some hunger issues, but he is 8 years old now and has an incentive to not gain wait - s!!!!!!!
I see that you mentioned that you child sneaks food morning, noon and the middle of the night. I don’t think that it is common that a child would wake up out of a sound sleep just to snack. Does his eating binges in any way relate to his med dosing? Do the middle of the night munchies come before or after his last meds of the day?
This is something to be considered. My brother-in-law was taking steroids when he was on the wrestling team in school (I will not pass judgment here as he already said it was stupid) and he said that shortly after he took them he would become ravenous and would do anything to get some food in his stomach. Maybe it is worth making a time log as to when these hunger attacks seem to occur in relation to his meds.
I do wish you luck. I remember the frustration I would have to see him honestly and obviously hungry yet knowing that I wasn’t happy with his snacking habits.
