KellySara,
I have 2 boys with SWCAH (ages 6 and 7). To this day, I still get very nervous when either child gets a stomach virus or the flu. Both of my children started daycare when the were 8 weeks old, so they have had their share of virus’. Just this past January, my 6 year old got a stomach virus (it seems to always happen in the middle of the night), he was vomiting every 30 minutes. After either the 4th or 5th vomit, we gave him a Solu-Cortef injection. We called the Ped Endo on call and she recommeded that we take him to the emergency room for fluids just to be on the safe side, so we did. Our Ped Endo has always told us it is better to be safe than sorry. If we are not sure about whether to give a stress dose, then it is best to go ahead and do it just in case they really needed it. For example, years ago a daycare worker slammed my youngest childs’ finger in the door. They callled me at work. I went to daycare and gave him a stress dose just in case. I hope this information helps. If you are ever unsure or scared about what to do when she is sick, even in the middle of the night, call your Ped Endo on-call. Or, take your child to the emergency room. I have done that on numerous occasions. Please let me know if you have any questions. I was once where you are now.
