Carol M.Dear Toni,
A low body temperature (hypothermia) is a sign of adrenal crisis. I would definitely NOT wait till Sunday. I’m sorry....I am not normally an alarmist, but if this was my child, I would give him a Solu-Cortef injection immediately and bring him to the hospital.
CAH children are normally treated with hydrocortisone (cortisol replacement), Florinef, and sodium chloride. Why is your son taking all those other medications? Is he being treated for another condition, as well?
I was especially curious about the Lasix, which I remembered was sometimes given to race horses, so looked it up on google and was alarmed to read that it is a diuretic that makes one lose water and sodium...the exact opposite of what you would normally want with a CAH infant who is salt-wasting! If this is being prescribed for the CAH, and not something else, please realize that this is not normally done!!
Sorry, if I am misunderstanding something, but---together with the low body temperature and lethargy---something sounds like it could be very wrong. Please follow your instincts and get this checked out right away...good luck and let us know how you make out.
